Hermon DeKalb 35  Canton 28

The Canton Golden Bears Girls JV Basketball team played Hermon DeKalb in the Championship Game of the Martin Luther King Basketball Tournament, hosted by Hermon DeKalb Central School. The tournament was pushed back a few weeks because of the weather but the game was finally played on Saturday afternoon. The Demons outlasted the Bears by the score of 28-35. With the loss the young Bears will start the second round of league play with a record of 11-2.

The Cubs were led by Ashley Aldous who chipped in seven points.  Elle White and Jenna Larrabee netted six points each in the loss. Both girls also grabbed eight rebounds.  Other Bears who put points on the board were Zayda Gaurin four points and Emma Bradish Hayes who had one point.

“Hermon-DeKalb is a good team and very well coached,” remarked Coach Mike Wentworth. “They played better than we did today.  Not being able to practice the last three days because of the weather was not the way we wanted to come into today’s game but the girls played hard and I couldn’t ask for anything more from them.”

Canton will be back on the court on Tuesday when they travel to Gouverneur to face the Wildcats.  The Cats beat the Bears earlier in the season.
