At Hermon-Dekalb High School on Friday, Canton 56, Lyme 21

On Friday afternoon the Canton girls JV Basketball team played in the first round of the annual Martin Luther King Basketball tournament hosted by Hermon DeKalb Central School.

The young Bears tipped it off against Lyme Central school and cruised to a 56-21 victory. Eighth graders Elle White and Ashley Aldous paced the Bear Cubs with 23 and 19 points in the game. White also controlled the boards by pulling down 12 rebounds. Other Bears putting points on the board were Elise Harris with four, Hadley Green with two, Mylee Peck with two, Zayda Gaurin with two and Addison Robert Bogart with two points.

“We got off the bus running today and really played well,” said Coach Mike Wentworth. “I love to see so many kids put points on the scoreboard today. It shows the work that they have been putting in. Elle and Ashley really paced us today and as you have seen all year, when those two go the team goes. This is going to be a fun tournament for me because it is where it all started.”

The second day of the tournament was snowed out and moved to Saturday January 27. Canton will play the undefeated Hermon-DeKalb Green Demons for the JV Championship. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.

The Bears will play next on Friday when they will make the trip to Malone, to face the Huskies. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
