In Brasher on Monday evening, Canton 25, SLC  16

The Canton Girls JV Basketball team hit the road on Monday night traveling to Brasher Falls to square off with the St. Lawrence Central Larries and former Golden Bear Randy Todd.  Todd, a former standout athlete, has taken over the coaching helm for the Larries and has them headed in the right direction.

The Bears jumped out to an early lead but had a few people go down with different ailments and had to survive a 25-16 victory.  Eighth graders, Elle White and Ashley Aldous paced the Bears with 11 and 10 points, followed by freshman Elise Harris who chipped in four points of her own in the winning cause.

“Playing short two girls who are big parts of our team was a struggle for us today,” said Coach Mike Wentworth. “As a team we are just going to have to work through this and see who steps up to fill in until we can get healthy. Elle, Ashley and Zayda Gaurin had to play a lot of minutes today being short handed and they all emptied the tank.”

The young Bear Cubs will have a few practice days to figure it all out until they head to Hermon-DeKalb on Friday afternoon for their annual MLK day tournament. Canton will play Lyme in the first round at 3:30pm.
