Hadley Alguire is the latest Golden Bears softball player to commit to playing at the next level. Alguire, the daughter of Alison and Bill Alguire, committed to play at Division III, SUNY Brockport this past Friday morning.
Alguire, a three-sport athlete in softball, soccer and basketball at Canton has earned most of her accolades on the diamond. She was voted First Team Times All-North and Section X All-Northern both her sophomore and junior years, while also earning Times MVP and All-State honors as a sophomore. Her junior season was cut short by a hand injury late in the season, missing the last four games and the playoffs.
Alguire and Ava Hoy have been the main pitchers for the Golden Bears softball team the past two seasons while leading the team to an overall Section X title in 2022, Class B titles in 2021 and 2022 and the state quarterfinals last year. Alguire does not just stand out in the circle. Offensively, she swings the bat very well from the left side, topping her cousin and Bears Co-Head Coach Kacie Wentworth Brabaw on the record board in a few categories over the last two seasons.
“Hadley has probably played more Softball in her life than any other player that has gone through our program,” Canton Varsity Softball Coach Mike Wentworth said. “She has played travel ball all over the northeast since she was 10 years old. Her work ethic and love for the game is second to none, taking advantage of every opportunity she could to put on her glove or swing a bat. I can’t wait to see how she does at the collegiate level.”
“I am happy the process is over and I think that Brockport is a good fit for me as a student and as a softball player,” Alguire said. “Playing three sports at Canton has always been important to me but softball is the one I always wanted to play in college. Now that I have made my decision it is now time to concentrate on basketball playoffs and taking care of some unfinished business on the softball field this spring.”
